Swiss Virtual Campus - 2000-2007/08

The Swiss Virtual Campus (SVC) is a federal program which is now concluded and which aimed at the promotion of Internet-based learning at the Swiss Institutions of Higher Education  - IHE (Universities, Universities of Applied Sciences, Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology). It has been developed in two successive phases: the impulse phase (2000-2003) and the consolidation phase (2004-2008).

The Swiss Virtual Campus program is part of a process aimed at promoting the information society in Switzerland as well as enabling education - in particular higher education - to take advantage of the opportunities now available through new information and communication technology.

The development of eLearning, as an inherent component of teaching, lies now in the sole responsibility of the institutions of higher education and the costs related to its funding are integrated in the ordinary budget of the IHE.
